The self-described “ambient-punk” band Deerhunter will launch a 29-date headlining tour on October 31, three days after their third studio LP “Microcastle” hits store shelves. The tour opens at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta, GA, and is scheduled for a December 6 finale at The Bottletree in Birmingham, AL.

The 12-track “Microcastle” was leaked on the Internet on May 31, and released on iTunes on August 5. In addition to the band’s other LPs, Deerhunter has produced four EPs and appeared on four compilations.

The Atlanta-based band formed in 2001, though they did not release a record until 2005. Over the years, the band’s line-up has changed due to the death of a bandmate and internal strife. Bradford Cox, Moses Archuleta, Josh Fauver, Lockett Pundt and Whitney Petty currently comprise the group.

From August 5 through September 6, the quintet is supporting industrial rock group Nine Inch Nails on tour. Deerhunter was one of three groups selected by Trent Reznor to open for NIN over the course of the six-week Lights In The Sky Tour. “The Nine Inch Nails shows are a blast,” frontman Bradford Cox noted on Deerhunter’s blog. “It’s a really intense thing to experience. I am really honored for Deerhunter to have been asked along.”
