Emerging UK rock ensemble Glasvegas, named “The Best New Band in Britain” by NME, will launch its first-ever U.S. tour this fall with a string of headlining club shows. The tour kicks off September 29 and runs through October 4.
Formed in Glasgow, Scotland, in early 2006, Glasvegas has been personally selected by Ian McCulloch to support his band Echo & The Bunnymen when they play New York’s Radio City Music Hall on October 1.
Band members James Allan (vocals, rhythm guitar), Rab Allan (lead guitar, backing vocals), Paul Donoghue (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Caroline McKay (drums) spent time in the U.S. earlier this year recording the band’s highly anticipated self-titled debut album for Columbia Records. The album is due out in the U.S. in early 2009, and is expected to continue the band’s blend of experimental, surf and pop music.
In its short time together, the band has accumulated numerous accolades from NME and the BBC since releasing the debut single, “Go Square Go!,” on October 30, 2006. Most recently, Glasvegas has spent much of 2008 building a reputation as one of the UK’s top live bands and performed at a number of high profile festivals including SRO shows at Glastonbury and T In The Park.
