Scottish alt-rockers The Fratellis have cancelled the remaining five concerts on their current US tour: September 30 through October 4. Tickets for the club and theater tour can be refunded at point of purchase.

An early announcement on the band’s Web site noted that all members had returned home to Scotland “due to the death of a close friend.” The post has since been changed to note only a non-specific bereavement as the cause of the cancellation.

“We apologize whole-heartedly to our American fans who have bought tickets for the shows this week,” the band said in the statement. The group was supporting its second album, “Here We Stand,” released on June 11 in the U.S.

In three short years, The Fratellis have been the recipient of some high profile music awards. At the 2007 BRIT Awards, they went home as the Best British Breakthrough Act. At the 2008 European Border Breakers Awards, they were named Best European Border Breaking Act. In July 2008, they were named Best British Band at the Silver Clef Awards.
