Acclaimed singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne has announced plans for a spring tour of East Coast cities in the U.S. and Canada. The performer has more than 20 shows scheduled for the run, which begins in early April and continues through the end of the month. Public onsales begin on February 3.

Lynyrd Skynyrd keyboardist Billy Powell died early in the morning on Wednesday, January 28. The band has cancelled a couple upcoming shows as they mourn the loss of the musician.

This year’s outing will take on form as a full-fledged traveling lifestyle festival in the same vein as the Musink Tattoo & Music Festival. … Finally, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center has named Patti LaBelle the headliner for the June 27-28 Freihofer’s Jazz Festival.

LeAnn Rimes has kept the tour dates coming for 2009, with more than 20 performances scheduled through the fall. The country singer’s next performance is tonight (January 29) at Town Toyota Center in Wenatchee, WA, and her final confirmed concert date for 2009 isn’t until an October 2-3 run at Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, TX. Rimes has stops along the way booked for February 7 at Star of the Desert Arena in Primm, NV; April 23-24 at Casino Rama in Orillia, ON; June 5-6 at The Frederick Brown, Jr. Amphitheater in Peachtree City, GA; July 3 at Naval Amphibious Base Theater in Norfolk, VA; and September 19 at the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona, CA.

The English Beat‘s anniversary tour is underway in the U.S. and Canada with 28 concerts booked from the upcoming January 30 set at Rams Head Live! in Baltimore, MD, through the May 23-24 closing shows at Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry, NH. Highlights for the extensive jaunt include a February 7 gig at the recently renovated Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ, a February 27-28 run at Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, CA, an April 4 performance at The Plaza Club in Vancouver, BC, shows on May 17-18 at Rams Head on Stage in Annapolis, MD, another set on May 20-21 at Sellersville Theater 1894 in Sellersville, PA, and a May 23-24 at Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry, NH.

Zappa Plays Zappa will be starting a nine-show tour of the West Coast on February 26 at Dodge Theatre in Phoenix, AZ, which wraps later on March 7 at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa, CA. When that jaunt ends, the band will pick up a recently announced block of dates in Australia. Zappa Plays Zappa will head down under for an April 11 set at The Tivoli in Brisbane and continue across Oz through an April 18 performance at the West Coast Blues & Roots Festival in Perth. Other Aussie gigs include an April 14 show at State Theatre in Sydney, and an April 16 set at Palais Theatre in Melbourne.

Razorlight has a mixed bag of concerts booked over the coming months, culminating with a May tour of the band’s native UK. The next concert is tonight (January 29) at The Metro in Sydney, AUS, followed by a January 31 set at Hifi Bar in Melbourne, AUS, a February 3 gig at Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA. a February 7 concert at Vive Cuervo Salon in Mexico City, MEX, and a February 10 show at The Fillmore in New York, NY. After a few March dates, the recently announced UK run begins May 2 at King Tuts in Glasgow and ends May 9 at the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester. The band’s May 7 performance at the O2 Arena in London is a featured stop on the tour.

Funeral for a Friend is currently traveling the U.S. concert circuit, with a show tonight (January 29) at Magic Stick in Detroit, MI, and more gigs booked through February 13 at The Glasshouse in Pomona, CA. But that won’t be the end of the line for the rock group, which has just announced plans for a headlining tour of the UK. Seven shows have been announced, beginning with a March 23 gig at Muni Arts Centre in Pontypridd. Other dates include a March 25 show at QMU in Glasgow and a March 28 set at ULU in London. The final date on the UK run is booked for March 31 at Roadmender in Northampton.
