Stars of their own HBO series, comedic duo Bret McKenzie and Jermaine Clement will take their music act Flight of the Conchords on a tour of North America this spring. Currently, the outing is set at 25 shows, beginning with an April 7 show at the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, FL, and ending on May 25 with two gigs at Berkeley Community Theatre in Berkeley, CA.
The coast-to-coast circuit features an April 14 concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York, NY, an April 28 gig at Arie Crown Theater in Chicago, IL, a May 16 concert at Red Rock Amphitheatre in Denver, CO, and a May 24 set at Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, CA. In addition, Flight of the Conchords is scheduled to play two sets on April 18 at Tower Theater in Upper Darby, PA, as well as a two-night stand on April 21-22 at Massey hall in Toronto, ON.
Though the New Zealand-based pair has not officially announced the spring trek, dates have begun appearing on Ticketmaster and Live Nation. Additional shows were also announced on the official MySpace page for American comedian Arj Barker, who will appear on select dates of the tour.
McKenzie and Clement began their folk-rock comedy act in 1998 after meeting at Victoria University of Wellington in their native New Zealand. Their eclectic blend of musical styles and witty lyrics gained critical attention, resulting in a BBC Radio 2 program in 2004.
The performers’ humor made its way into American pop culture with the summer 2007 debut of the HBO television series “Flight of the Conchords.” The musical sitcom, which began its second season on January 18, follows McKenzie and Clement through a fictionalized version of their daily lives as they try to build an American fanbase for their band.
