Though New Jersey’s own The Gaslight Anthem is still relatively small, the alt-rock quartet has big plans for a North American headlining tour. On the eve of a lengthy European run, the band is already anticipating the spring kick-off of their 28-city trek.

The coast-to-coast run begins with a March 8 appearance at the Langerado Music Festival at Bicentennial Park in Miami, FL, and ends May 6 at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, NC. Along the way, the band will perform gigs on March 27 at Webster Hall in New York, NY, on April 3 at The Bottom Lounge in Chicago, IL, on April 16 at Slim’s in San Francisco, CA, and on April 29 at Antone’s in Austin, TX.

The band will venture north of the border for six dates in Canada during the spring 2009 trek. Stops include a March 18 set at La Tulipe in Montreal, QC, and an April 10 concert at The Plaza Club in Vancouver, BC.

Ohio trio Heartless Bastards will open for all U.S. concerts, starting with the late March show in New York City. The Ontario-based group Saint Alvia will provide support for the Canadian gig stops.

The Gaslight Anthem is supporting its sophomore release “The ’59 Sound,” which hit stores in August 2008. A follow-up to the band’s 2007 debut “Sink or Swim,” the new record quickly gained mainstream attention and peaked at No. 70 on the Billboard 200.

“Things have happened so fast for us that we haven’t really had time to sit back and reflect or go ‘What just happened?'” explained frontman Brian Fallon on the band’s Web site. “I can’t say that we were prepared for any of this at all; I’m just very grateful that we’re here.”
