Progressive metal band Mastodon will launch an intimate club and theater tour this spring to support the group’s latest concept album. The 28-city tour begins April 10 at WorkPlay Theatre in Birmingham, AL, and ends May 15 at Center Stage in the band’s hometown of Atlanta, GA.
The two-month outing features an April 18 appearance at the Coachella Valley Music Festival in Indio, CA, an April 30 concert at Metro / Smart Bar in Chicago, IL, a May 9 gig at the Fillmore at Irving Plaza in New York, NY, and a May 14 show at The Orange Peel in Asheville, NC.
Seven shows are booked in Canada, including an April 23 concert at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, BC, and a May 4 performance at Le National in Montreal, QC. Special musical guests for the spring jaunt are Kylesa and Intronaut.
Ticket presales begin today, March 4, and are accessible with the password “CracktheSkye.” For more information on presale ticket outlets, visit the Mastodon Web site. Public onsales launch on Saturday, March 7.
On tour, Mastodon will perform its forthcoming concept album “Crack the Skye” in its entirety, followed by a second set of songs spanning the band’s 10-year career. The record is scheduled for a March 24 release on Reprise Records, a follow-up to 2006’s “Blood Mountain,” which hit No. 32 on the Billboard 200.
Mastodon made its debut in 2002 with “Remission,” the band’s only release not considered to be a concept album. The group’s lineup is composed of drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor, guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds, guitarist Bill Kelliher and bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders.
After completing the spring tour, Mastodon will head overseas for a summer tour of Europe, supporting Metallica’s on-going World Magnetic tour.
