Since bursting onto the international circuit early this year for a headlining arena tour, new Southern rock royalty Kings of Leon have showed no signs of stopping. Now the three Nashville-based brothers and their cousin have confirmed plans for more North American arena dates, as well as headlining spots at two major international music festivals.

Eight concerts are booked currently for the late summer run, beginning with an August 9 concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO, and continuing through September 14 at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, NY. Highlights include an August 15 show at General Motors Place in Vancouver, BC, and a September 12 gig at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, NJ.

In the middle of the run, Kings of Leon will temporarily break and head over to the UK, where they will headline two of the largest annual music festivals. The band begins as the main attraction at Reading Festival on August 28 before hitting the Leeds Festival with top billing on August 30.

The quartet — composed of brothers Nathan, Caleb and Jared Followill, and their cousin Matthew Followill — is currently touring behind their fourth studio album, “Only by the Night.” Following its September 2008 release, the disc debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, the Kings’ highest ever position on the chart, driven by the success of the hit single “Sex on Fire.”

Kings of Leon began the first leg of their North American tour in fall 2008, booked into large clubs and theaters across the U.S. and Canada. But in the weeks following the release of “Only by the Night,” the Southern rockers’ mainstream popularity exploded, leading to a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden in January and catapulting them back onto the stage this spring for a tour of national arenas and amphitheaters.

The spring outing launched on April 18-19 at Boston University’s Agganis Arena in Boston, MA, and continues through a May 23 performance at the Sasquatch! Festival at Gorge Amphitheatre in Quincy, WA. Kings of Leon perform next on April 24 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.
