Meiko tour announces first headlining dates across U.S.
Less than a year after signing with MySpace Records, folk rock musician Meiko is heading out on her first headlining tour of the United States. The 24-city tour begins April 16 at Craftsman Court in Scottsdale, AZ, and closes May 30 at BuFest in Agoura Hills, CA.
Meiko’s trek is routed through small clubs and theaters across the nation, including a hometown gig on May 4 at The Hummingbird in Macon, GA. The young performer will also stop for shows on April 17 at Club Congress in Tucson, AZ; May 7 at the Canal Room in New York, NY; May 15 at Schubas Tavern in Chicago, IL; and May 27 at Doug Fir Lounge in Portland, OR.
The singer-songwriter, who has mainly performed solo sets on her previous tours, will be accompanied by a backing band for the entire tour. Support will come from musician Cory Chisel.
Meiko began performing as a child, working her way up to the self-release of her eponymous debut in 2007. The independent record hit No. 28 on Billboard‘s Top Heatseekers chart for up-and-coming acts, eventually gaining the notice of social networking site MySpace’s new record label.
After signing with MySpace in June 2008, Meiko reissued her debut album on the imprint. The re-release climbed to No. 5 on the Heatseekers chart and broke onto the Billboard 200 at No. 159. Since then, her songs have been featured more than a dozen times on hit television shows such as “One Tree Hill” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”
Meiko was one of the main artists billed on the fall 2008 Hotel Cafe Tour. She performed on all dates of the six-week outing, which featured a rotating lineup of musicians, including other singer-songwriter rising stars like Rachael Yamagata and Lenka.
