Former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland is taking another turn as a solo act this spring with a recently announced tour of the U.S. and Canada. The brief jaunt will hit states from coast to coast over a two-week period, beginning May 12 at Rialto Theatre in Tuscon, AZ.
The rocker’s itinerary is currently set at nine dates, concluding the run with a May 24 performance at Majestic Ventura Theatre in Ventura, CA. Other gig stops are penciled in for May 13 at The Marquee in Tempe, AZ; May 18 at Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, BC; and May 20 at Roseland Ballroom in New York, NY, among other dates.
Weiland is continuing to tour behind his latest solo effort, “‘Happy’ in Galoshes,” which hit stores in late November 2008. The record peaked on the Billboard 200 at No. 97 and climbed to the No. 5 position on the independent albums chart.
The musician’s first solo album “12 Bar Blues” fared slightly better upon its release in 1998, hitting No. 42 on the Billboard 200. Though the record received high marks from critics, that praise failed to translate into commercial success, and the disc quickly dropped off the charts.
Weiland launched his first round of U.S. dates for “Happy” early in the year, completing 14 concerts from January 16 in Dallas, TX, through February 7 in Las Vegas, NV. The outing was originally scheduled for November, but was pushed back without explanation. The release of “Happy,” originally set for November 18, was delayed at the same time until November 25.
