Sir Paul McCartney is slowly adding more concert dates this summer with the confirmation of an August 1 performance at FedExField in Landover, MD, home of the NFL’s Washington Redskins.

Tickets for the summer show go on sale on June 26. Tickets will be available at the venue box office on the first day of sales only, but will also be sold through all Ticketmaster locations and Live Nation. The concert, promoted by Live Nation, is rain or shine.

McCartney has already booked the Halifax Commons in Halifax, NS, on June 15 and Citi Field in Flushing, NY, on June 17-18 and 21. AEG Live is promoting the Citi Field shows, the first concerts in the new venue.

McCartney will not be launching a full tour, according to industry executives, because “he wants to stay close to home and be near his family.” He presently resides in Long Island, among numerous other locations.

The Beatles’ first North American concert was February 11, 1964, at the Washington Coliseum in Washington, DC. That historic performance in front of 8,000 people has recently been released on DVD. As a solo artist, he has performed in the greater Washington metropolitan area numerous times, the last being October 8, 2005.

“This will be a great concert by one of the world’s most-loved performers,” said Daniel M. Snyder, owner of the Washington Redskins and FedExField, in a statement. “I’ve been a fan of Paul’s all my life, so it’s going to be a memorable night for us all.”
