When The Killers launch into their latest North American concert dates later this week, they will do so with a recently extended itinerary on the horizon. The Las Vegas-based rock crew has added a handful of new dates to its late summer 2009 tour, which now continues through October 3 at American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL.

The rock crew has two shows planned for this weekend on August 8 at Horseshoe Casino in Elizabeth, IN, and August 9 at Lollapalooza in Chicago, IL. After a round of shows overseas, The Killers will return stateside and begin their primary tour leg on August 31 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD.

The itinerary currently stands at 23 dates, up from the previously announced 14 shows that were unveiled earlier in the summer. Some of the most recent additions a September 16 show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA, a September 19 hometown gig at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV, and an October 1 concert at UCF Arena in Orlando, FL.

The trek also includes previously announced dates in Canada on September 5 at Quays Jacques Cartier in Montreal, QC, and September 6 at The Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto, ON. Wolfmother is opening all six concerts from August 31 through September 6.

The Killers have been releasing ticketing information just a few dates at a time, and just opened fan club presales for their September 15 show at Bren Event Center in Irvine, CA, early last week. More specific sale and pricing information is available on the band’s official Web site.

The alt-rock quartet is supporting its third full-length studio record, “Day & Age,” released in late November 2008. The album peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200, while the band toured behind the effort with a three-week tour in early winter 2009 and another three-week trek later in spring.
