Beleaguered pop and R&B artist Chris Brown is staging a comeback after personal problems clouded his career earlier this year. The 20-year-old performer has announced plans for a 19-date Fan Appreciation Tour to launch this November.
Reportedly encouraging a strictly “fans only” atmosphere, the one-month venture will stick to intimate performances at medium-sized clubs. Brown’s trek kicks off November 14 at the House of Blues in Houston, TX, and concludes December 15 at the Nokia Theater in New York, NY.
Other scheduled performances include a November 18 show at Avalon in Los Angeles, CA; A November 26 event at the House of Blues in Chicago, IL; and a December 6 gig at the House of Blues in Boston, MA.
Select dates of the tour are already on sale with the next round of public onsales scheduled to begin October 23. Rap duo New Boyz will provide opening support for the club tour.
Before beginning the headlining run, Brown is slated to perform at the Powerhouse 2009 concert on October 27 at Izod Center in East Rutherford, NJ. The radio-sponsored show will mark Brown’s first official public performance since his high-profile altercation in February with then-girlfriend Rihanna.
The performer initially pleaded not guilty in connection with the pre-Grammy Award ceremony incident, which sent Brown’s popularity plummeting and resulted in radio stations pulling his tunes from the airwaves. However, that plea was later changed to guilty as part of a deal that included five years of probation and six months of community labor, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Interestingly, Brown’s tour was officially announced on the same day Rihanna debuted her first solo single since the February incident. A portion of the Fan Appreciation Tour’s proceeds will benefit developmental disability charity Best Buddies International and domestic violence shelter Jenesse Center.
