With a new album set for release, indie rock band Spoon is preparing for a spring tour of North America that will kick off with a hometown show.

The group will be in Austin, TX, on March 17 to perform at this year’s South By Southwest festival (SXSW) before heading off to more than a dozen additional U.S. markets. Tour dates extend through an April 13 gig at Fox Theater in Oakland, CA.

Several two-night stands have been booked for the coast-to-coast outing, which encompasses 21 performances in all. Extended runs are on the calendar for March 22-23 at 9:30 Club in Washington, DC; April 2-3 at First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN; April 5-6 at Ogden Theatre in Denver, CO; and April 9-10 at Moore Theatre in Seattle, WA.

Deerhunter will provide main support for the entire tour. Opening duties go to The Strange Boys for the first half of the tour, ending with a March 30 show at the Royal Oak Music Theatre in Royal Oak, MI. From there, Micachu & The Shapes steps in for all remaining gigs.

The tour supports Spoon’s seventh full-length studio album, “Transference,” to be released on January 19. The record is a follow-up to 2007’s “Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga,” which debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top Independent Albums chart.
