With the release of the band’s much-anticipated sophomore album just around the corner, indie rock group Vampire Weekend has announced its plans for a full North American tour in early spring.
The 24-date venture kicks off March 14 at Edmonton Event Centre in Edmonton, AB, and continues for five weeks before wrapping April 19 at Fox Theater in Oakland, CA. Highlights of the spring routing include performances on March 19 at Ogden Theatre in Denver, CO; March 25 at Riviera Theatre in Chicago, IL; April 1 at Orpheum Theatre in Boston, MA; and April 9 at the House of Blues in New Orleans, LA.
In addition to the tour’s opening night, other Canadian concerts planned for the outing are March 15 at MacEwan Hall in Calgary, AB, and March 30 at Sound Academy in Toronto, ON.
Public ticket sales for the Contra Tour begin January 8 in markets across the U.S. and Canada. Ticket face values range in price from $25 to $28.50, with all three shows north of the border priced at CA $27.50.
Vampire Weekend became one of indie music’s most hyped bands with the release of its self-titled debut in 2008. The record peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the UK Indie Chart, and propelled the New York-founded band to a series of sold out performances on both sides of the pond.
The upcoming spring tour supports the quartet’s forthcoming sophomore album, “Contra,” scheduled for release in the U.S. on January 12.
To celebrate the release, Vampire Weekend will perform a special January 12 show at the Music Box in Los Angeles, CA. Then it’s back to New York City for a trio of shows at United Palace Theater (January 17), Webster Hall (January 18) and Bowery Ballroom (January 19).
