Of the 28 productions currently playing on Broadway, there are 18 musicals, nine plays and one special. There were three productions in the million-dollar club this week: Wicked at the Gershwin, The Lion King at the Minskoff and Billy Elliot at the Imperial. The play with the highest ticket sales was A View from the Bridge at the Cort. The musical Fela! at the Eugene O’Neill saw the largest drop in sales, down 16 percent from the previous reporting period.

Two plays opened on this past week, the revival of The Miracle Worker at the Circle in the Square and the world premiere of the comedy A Behanding in Spokane at the Schoenfeld. Opening this week is the play Next Fall at the Helen Hayes on March 11.

Top Ticket this past week at $350 was offered by A Little Night Music at the Walter Kerr and Jersey Boys at the August Wilson. The Best Buy as indicated by the Average Paid Admission was offered by “Next Fall” at $31.05.

For those fans of the movie “Sleepless in Seattle”, written by Jeff Arch with Nora Ephron and David Ward, there is some good news. The film is now being developed as a musical for Broadway, aiming at an opening on Valentine’s Day in 2011. Joel Zwick will direct.

Meanwhile, according to the New York Theatre Guide, there are indications that Disney may be developing the 1992 film “Newsies” and the 1941 animated classic “Dumbo” for Broadway.

Please note: Beginning with the week ending May 31, 2009, “Gross” represents Gross Gross and “Attendance” represents Total Attendance. For every week prior to May 31, these numbers represent Net Gross and Paid Attendance respectively. The Broadway League took this into account when comparing this season’s figures to the previous season’s and made adjustments accordingly.
