Broadway beamed a little brighter this past week, with ticket sales of $20,126,659 compared to $19,380,902 the previous week, no small task considering there are only 25 productions on the Great White Way. Two plays, 22 musicals, and a new special make up the current offerings. Comparing the season to date, $167,746,875 is the reported figure so far, compared to $162,567,863 for the same point last season representing a positive 3.2 percent this season over last. Attendance overall is up this past week as well, close to 84 percent.

Of the 25 productions, only seven ranked in the million dollar category: Wicked at the Gershwin, The Lion King at the Minskoff, The Addams Family at the Lunt-Fontanne, Promises, Promises at the Broadway, Mary Poppins at the New Amsterdam, Billy Elliot at the Imperial and Jersey Boys at the August Wilson.

The one new production opening on July 15 was the special, Harry Connick, Jr. in concert at the Neil Simon Theatre. “Jersey Boys” offers the single Top Ticket at $350 this past week, while the play Race at the Barrymore once again presents the Best Buy as suggested by the Average Paid Admission, $63.13.

Looking at dollar gains and losses compared to the previous week, “Mary Poppins” scored an increase of $116,404 while Fela! at the O’Neill dropped $26,350. Million Dollar Quartet at the Nederlander saw the largest drop in attendance percentage-wise, down 2.2 percent, while Rock of Ages at the Atkinson saw a gain of almost eight percent.
