After taking time off to record and tour with Them Crooked Vultures, rock musician Josh Homme is now rededicated to an earlier project. Queens of the Stone Age, which Homme fronts, has announced its plans to tour North America this spring.
The tour’s 20-date routing kicks off March 18 at One Eyed Jacks in New Orleans, LA, and continues through an April 12 gig at the Wiltern in Los Angeles, CA. Other U.S. gig stops include March 25 at Terminal 5 in New York, NY, and April 12 at Riviera Theatre in Chicago, IL.
QOTSA will also visit the Great White North for at least two performances. The Canadian concerts are lined up for the eastern provinces on March 27 at Metropolis in Montreal, QC, and March 29 at the Sound Academy in Toronto, ON.
Public ticket sales begin this Friday, February 18, with presales opening earlier on Thursday. Ticket prices start as low as $20 in select markets, though most concerts are priced into the $30 to $40 range, according to current listings on Ticketmaster.com.
The spring tour celebrates the reissue of QOTSA’s 1998 eponymous debut, which the band will play in its entirety throughout the tour. According to a statement on QOTSA’s official Web site, the remainder of the tour’s setlist will be culled from “that same early Queens era,” with some “nightly surprises” thrown into the mix. The album reissue is slated for March 1.
After the domestic trek, the Queens will launch a tour of Europe in May, for which dates still forthcoming. An additional leg of North American concert dates will follow in June.
QOTSA’s activity has been minimal in recent years as its members pursued various side projects — such as Homme’s late 2009 tour with Them Crooked Vultures and Dean Fertita’s various tours with The Dead Weather. The Queens regrouped briefly for some scattered festivals in Europe in summer 2010.
