Box office returns rose again with the 39 current productions totaling ticket sales of $23,247,075. Ticket sales of the previous reporting period ending April 3 were $22,130,171, a difference of $1,116,904. The same week last season reported $22,531,010. Comparing numbers for this season to the last, ticket sales are 2.4 percent ahead.
Only four productions reported box office receipts in excess of $1 million including “Wicked” at the Gershwin, leading all shows is sales again at $1,646,991. “The Lion King” at the Minskoff was the second highest grossing show last week with $1,560,631, followed by “Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark” at the Foxwoods at $1,285,912 and lastly “Jersey Boys” at $1,009,006. The lowest reported return at the box office was by “High” at just $99,292.
Attendance reported for the week overall was 80.06 percent, with eleven shows reporting 95 percent or better. The leading three were the musical “The Book of Mormon” at 102.44 percent, a carbon copy of the previous week’s percentage, with “Anything Goes” at 101.1 percent and “War Horse” at 100 percent. “Wicked” finished the week just below 100 percent with a reported 99.8 percent. “La Cage aux Folles” at the Longacre reported the lowest percentage of capacity at 48.23 percent.
No production came close to “Wicked” and “The Lion King” in reported Gross Gross Potential at 105.14 and 102.23 percent respectively this past week. Reporting the lowest figure again was “High” at the Booth, 18.5 percent for the second week in a row.
Six shows continue to post tickets with face values at or exceeding $300, including “Jersey Boys” at $350.
“American Idiot” is set to close on April 24, but may go on to have a new life as a feature film with Michael Mayer directing.
