Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have revealed the first national dates for their 2012 tour.
The U.S. itinerary presently consists of nine dates, stretching from April 19 at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, CO, through May 5 at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, TX. As part of the late spring calendar, Petty and the Heartbreakers will also headline the New Orleans Jazz Fest on April 28.
A month after Petty’s final confirmed U.S. concert, the musician and his famed backing band will play a single date in Canada: June 3 in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Whether additional events will fill the May scheduling gap between the U.S. dates and Canadian show remains to be seen. But in a December 15 Q&A with fans and followers on Twitter, Petty largely avoided questions regarding plans for his 2012 tour itinerary.
“We only work three months every two years,” the musician briefly commented on touring at one point in the Twitter Q&A. “We’ve decided this year [to] focus on Europe, maybe down the road [Austrailia].”
Onsale information is yet to be announced for the U.S. performances, which could leave the door open for the addition of dates. At this point, only a December 16 presale and December 17 onsale have been slated for the Newfoundland concert.

Petty and the Heartbreakers last toured the United States in summer 2010. The tour’s launch was delayed more than a month — from May 6 to June 5 — as the band finished work on its 12th studio album, “Mojo.”
