Up-and-coming teen heartthrob Cody Simpson just finished touring with Justin Bieber. Fortunately for Simpson, Bieber has asked him to open for additional shows on the Believe tour, which he opened for this past year. “Opening the Believe tour has been a huge honor. It’s probably one of the biggest tours in recent times, and I’m confident people will be talking about it for years. I’m very thankful that Justin decided to include me, and we have been having a lot of fun together,” Simpson explained to Hollywoodlife.
Opening for Bieber definitely helped to promote Simpson who was even able to sell his albums at the concert, according to the examiner.com. Simpson will now open for a few additional dates on the “Believe” tour including at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, MO on October 26 and at TD Garden in Boston, MA on November 10. Simpson, who has scheduled tour dates in Europe beginning the end of this year, will push those dates back in order to perform with Bieber.
Simpson has also just released his debut album Paradise on October 2nd, according to Billboard.com. “Your first album, it’s a big moment,” Cody Simpson explained on his official website. “It’s a milestone in your career. It’s giving a lot of yourself to the world.” Currently, the album is at the top of the “iTunes Pop Albums” chart, according to MTV.
Simpson has had a tour of his own. The Welcome To Paradise Tour was his first tour across the U.S. and Canada, according to Simpson’s official website. It kicked off on February 2 of this year in Boston, MA at the Paradise Rock Club and included nine tour dates including stops at Goodfellas in Pottsville, PA and Northern Lights in Albany, NY. VIP packages for these performances sold out. These included a signed copy of Cody Simpson’s poster, a Cody Simpson t-shirt, a photo with the rising star.
15- year-old Simpson, a native of Australia, got his start at age seven when he started his first guitar lessons. In 2008, nine-year-old Simpson debuted his YouTube channel, according to his official website. He uploaded not only his first original songs, but also covers of Jason Mraz and Justin Timberlake songs, according to Billboard.com. Simpson released his debut single, “iYiYi” with artist FloRida and promoted this single while touring the U.S. as part of “2010’s Camplified Tour” which reached 30 summer camps across the U.S., according to Simpson’s website.
Cody Simpson released his debut EP in December 2010 titled 4 U. This included his single “iYiYi.” It also included another single “All Day,” which reached Number 1 on the Disney’s “Top 30 Countdown.” His following EP, “Coast to Coast,” was released in the summer of 2011. His official website states that it entered the Nielson SoundScan and Billboard 200 charts at Number 12. The Coast to Coast EP included the single “On My Mind,” which had a music video that reached 14 million views on his YouTube station.
Simpson’s YouTube channel currently has 425,000 subscribers and 140 million views according to Billboard.com. He also has 3.2 million ‘likes’ on Facebook and 3.3 million Twitter followers. He has recently released a movie, Finding Cody, which is the story of two girls attempting to sneak into one of his concerts. This movie includes songs from his debut album.
