Largely popular, Dave Matthews Band has released details for their planned month-long East Coast Winter tour. Lead singer and guitarist Dave Matthews, drummer Carter Beauford, bassist Stefan Lessard and violinist Boyd Tinsley will be visiting 14 venues between November 30 and December 22 of this year.
The tour will support the group’s most recent album, Away from the World that was released this past September, and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The group made music history with the release, becoming the first band to have six consecutive studio album releases debuting at number one.
Away from the World is the band’s eighth studio length album since their start in 1991. The group will be releasing the album in the United Kingdom and Europe next week. Audiences can expect to hear new songs from the album, as well as long-time fan favorites such as “Ants Marching,” “You and Me,” “Funny the Way It Is” and “Crash Into Me.”
Dave Matthews Band will kick of the winter tour with back-to-back performances at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey on November 30. The group will also play two shows in their hometown of Charlottesville, Virginia at the John Paul Jones Arena on December 14 and December 15. The tour wraps up at the Wells Fargo Center on December 22 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Other notable stops along the way include the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on December 8 and TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts on December 9.
The band has announced that the two shows in Charlottesville will be a fundraiser to raise money to support the Local Food Hub and the BAMA Works Fund. Concerttour.org explained that the money would be raised through VIP ticket packages. The packages will cost $275 and will include a concert ticket, parking pass, a limited-edition tour laminate and access to a pre-show hospitality area where there will be a silent auction for a variety of band memorabilia.
Recently, the band released an updated music video version of the first single from Away from the World, “Mercy.” The video was in honor of National Voter Registration Day. The video included a special message from frontman Dave Matthews, reminding their fans of the importance of taking a stand and voting. The song was chosen for its opening lyrics, “One by one we can turn it around.” The video was featured on YouTube’s homepage with an embedded link to register to vote on headcount.org/mercy.
The group has not released names of artists that will be joining them on the tour. Based off of past tours, fans can expect a number of supporting artists to appear. In the past supporting acts have included: Avett Brothers, The Head and the Heart, Brandi Carlile, Gary Clarke Jr., Allen Stone, Edward Sharpe, and the Magnetic Zeros, Fitz and the Tantrums, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Delta Spirit and Tower of Power.
Most of the tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, October 19 at 10 a.m. However tickets for the Brooklyn, Charlottesville and East Rutherford performances will not be available for purchase until Friday, October 26 at 10 a.m. It is projected that the tickets will not be available for long, as Dave Matthews Band has been ranked as the biggest ticket seller worldwide in the past decade, with over 18 million ticket sales throughout their musical career.
