Hip-hop stars Nas and Ms. Lauryn Hill will join together this fall for a 10 stop tour kicking off October 29 at the Palladium Ballroom in Dallas, TX. The tour, titiled Life is Good/Black Rage, will run for 3 weeks winding down on November 19 at the Fox Theater in Oakland, CA. Although there are only 10 dates the tour does a good job of spanning the United States with stops scheduled from California, to Chicago, and even up to Boston.
Nas and Hill recently hit the stage together for Hot 97’s Summer Jam in June and again at Rock the Bells earlier this month in September. Their summer success has surely encouraged them to tour together this fall. The two music icons will be a hot tour for long-time hip-hop fans.
According to Pollstar.com, Nas, referred to the long awaited tour with Hill as, “This is history. Better late than never. Life is good!”
The Life is Good/Black Rage tour is named after Nas’ most recent and 10th album, Life is Good, and Hill’s soon-to-be released single “Black Rage.”
Hill got her start with the hip-hop-reggea fusion band the Fugees. Hill along with Prakazrel Michel and Wyclef Jean rose to stardom mid-90s with their sophomore album release of The Score. The album produced mega hits “Ready or Not,” “Killing Me Softly,” and “No Woman, No Cry.”
In 1998, Hill took on a solo career with the release of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which went on to win five Grammy Awards. She then co-produced the album, Supernatural for Carlos Santana, which also won a Grammy Award for album of the year in 1999. These two consecutive wins for album of the year, set a record for most albums of the year wins by a female artist, the record is tied with Norah Jones. Since then Hill has dropped out of the limelight with coming back from hiatus with some acoustic solos, worked on a few soundtracks, and held performances at live music festival.
Nas is a unique rap artist who got his start in the mid-90s and released his debut album, Illmatic in 1994, which has been called a classic in the rap genre. Nas has sold over thirteen-million records in the United States. He has released eight successive platinum and multi-platinum albums. Nas is ranked as one of the greatest rappers of all time. Nas’ most recent album, Life Is Good hit the top of Billboard 200 in August.
Prior to taking part in his tour with Ms. Lauryn Hill, Nas can be seen performing at the Virgin Mobile Festival on October 6, and the Arizona State Fair on October 20. Nas also has a performance lined up after the conclusion of the tour with Elle Varner at the famous Radio City Music Hall on New Year’s Eve.
