Hit country music group Little Big Town just announced a national tour, set to launch in January of 2013.

The Tornado Tour, titled after their successful new album, will kick off in Kentucky on January 31, moving on to hit over 25 cities throughout the United States and Canada. Along the way, the tour will hit cities such as Birmingham, New York City, Washington D.C., Atlantic City, Huntington, Lancaster, Edmonton, Vancouver, San Antonio, Augusta, and Charleston.

Opening up for the group in select locations will be two other country singers, David Nail and Kacey Musgraves. According to Sarah Wyland of the Great American Country blog, David Nail describes his excitement about touring with a band like Little Big Town, “the only thing better than being on the road is being on the road with people who’re friends.”

The band is comprised of Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlappman, Jimi Westbrook and Phillip Sweet. The group got their start back in 1998, putting out their first album, self-titled, in 2002. Following their first, the group proceeded to produce another album in 2005 titled The Road to Here, which went platinum, A Place to Land in 2007, The Reason Why in 2010, and most recently, the album Tornado in 2012. The group has signed with a number of different labels, including Monument Records and Equity Music Group.

Little Big Town is widely known for their recent summer hit, “Pontoon,” which has topped the charts, and was nominated for Single of the Year and Music Video of the Year at the 2012 CMA Awards. This year the votes were on their side, as they took home the win for Single of the Year. As Fairchild said on stage at the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards, “we’re living proof that if you work really hard and chase your dream, all the good stuff happens and it follows you.” Little Big Town’s performance of their hit song was seen as a ‘departure’ for the group as they prepare to kick off their tour, according to ctpost.com. Sharing the CMA excitement along with LBT were other country artists Blake Shelton, Toby Keith, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Thompson Square, Miranda Lambert, and Eric Church.

Over the years, Little Big Town has received 12 CMA nominations. Some of their most popular songs include “Boondocks,” “I’m with the Band,” and “Little White Church.” Many of their songs have topped the Billboard Hot Country Song charts, including the most recent, “Tornado,” which was no doubt aided to the top by “Pontoon,” according to The Boot. “This new album means so much to us,” Schlapman told The Boot, “…To be able to showcase all of these songs is a dream come true.”
