Morrissey, known for his baritone voice and pompadour hair style, has announced rescheduled tour dates after postponing several shows due to his mother’s hospitalization. The British-born indie singer’s tour starts January 9 in Long Island, NY, and wraps up on March 8 in Portland, OR.

The first seven stops on Morrissey’s tour are all in the Northeast before he heads to Columbus, OH on January 22 for a performance at the LC Indoor Pavilion. After three more shows in the Midwest, Morrissey moves south to Asheville, NC for a show at the Orange Peel on January 28.

Morrissey returns to the Midwest for three more shows starting on February 2 in Lawrence, KS at Liberty Hall. He then heads west for two shows, after which he will play for five straight shows in Texas starting on February 12. The last eight stops on the Morrissey tour take place on the west coast beginning on February 21 in Denver, CO.

Kristeen Young will be the opening act on all stops of the tour except for March 1 when Patti Smith and her band will be opening for Morrissey at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. Smith is best known for her hit songs from the 1970’s such as “Gloria” and “Because the Night.”

Best known for his work in the 1980’s with the band the Smiths, Morrissey has enjoyed solo success, particular in his home country of England, since the band broke up in 1987. Since 1988, Morrissey has released nine solo albums including his most recent album 2009’s Years of Refusal.

Despite his musical success, Morrissey was reportedly without a music label from 1998 until 2003, and it appeared as if his career might be over. That same year he signed with Sanctuary Records and was able to release his first new album since 1997. 2004’s You are the Quarry, was able to restart Morrissey’s career with indie music fans. Since then he has earned a reputation in the music industry as a pioneer of the indie music genre.

Reportedly, last year Morrissey had completed work on his tenth solo album. Once again he has had trouble finding a label to distribute this new album. It remains unreleased with no current release date scheduled. Morrissey’s music has been featured in movies such as Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, (500) Days of Summer, and most recently The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Besides his singing career, Morrissey has gained attention for his outspoken opinions on political matters in Europe, and his strong beliefs regarding animal rights. He was honored last year as PETA’s UK Person of the Year.

Tickets are available for the rescheduled Morrissey 2013 U.S. tour dates. More information is also available about Morrissey and the 32 stop tour at True To You. Although a few shows had to be cancelled due to lack of venue availability, this tour includes stops across the United States.
