Atlanta’s new multipurpose stadium, Mercedez-Benz Stadium will host its first musical performance in October, as Garth Brooks makes a stop on his massive world tour in October 12th. His wife, Tricia Yearwood, will also be featured as a special guest, with tickets going on sale June 30th, according to Venuestoday.com.
“I’m thrilled to be back in Atlanta and honored to play the first concert in Mercedes-Benz Stadium,” said Brooks. “I’ve visited the stadium twice in the last month, and all I can say is, the fans are going to love it; it’s truly one-of-a-kind. We’re going to create a special experience the fans will never forget, and I can’t wait to light that place up this fall.”
The venue, which replaces the Georgia Dome and can hold up to 83,000 people at maximum capacity, opens in August with a preseason NFL contest between the Atlanta Falcons and Arizona Cardinals. The Brooks concert will be the venues first full-stage musical performance.
“It was important for us to not only find an artist who could deliver the biggest show in the world, but also had the same fan-focused ideals,” says Tim Zulawski, Senior VP/Chief Commercial Officer of AMB Sports and Entertainment. “We knew the best artist who could deliver, and that was Garth Brooks.”
In addition to concerts and the NFL, the new stadium will be home for Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United. It has been announced as the host of the Super Bowl in 2019, the NCAA men’s basketball Final Four in 2020, and the 2018 College Football Playoff Championship game.
