SpongeBob SquarePants, the new musical based on the Nickelodeon animated series, opens today, December 4 at Broadway’s Palace Theatre after beginning previews on November 6.

The show is directed by Tina Landau with a book by Kyle Jarrow, music supervision by Tom Kitt, and choreography by Tony winner Christopher Gattelli. SpongeBob SquarePants features original songs by Cyndi Lauper, Sara Bareilles, John Legend, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Yolanda Adams, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady Antebellum, Panic! at the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I., with a song by the late David Bowie.

The cast feature Ethan Slater in the lead role of SpongeBob, Gavin Lee as Squidward, Lilli Cooper as Sandy,  Danny Skinner as Patrick, and Brian Ray Norris as Mr. Krabs.

SpongeBob SquarePants is scheduled to play at the Palace Theatre until September 2 with tickets available from Ticketmaster.
