Paul Simon, iconic singer and songwriter, has announced that he will be hanging up his guitar for good, following one final farewell tour. Simon, who rose to fame as half of the iconic duo Simon & Garfunkel, will hit the road in late spring, stopping at venues throughout North America before hopping the pond to visit the United Kingdom and Europe in early summer. Paul Simon’s farewell tour – Homeward Bound – features 20 dates in the U.S. and Canada, followed by nine in the UK and continental Europe.
“I’ve often wondered what it would feel like to reach the point where I’d consider bringing my performing career to a natural end,” Simon said in a statement. “Now I know: it feels a little unsettling, a touch exhilarating and something of a relief. I love making music, my voice is still strong, and my band is a tight, extraordinary group of gifted musicians. I think about music constantly. I am very grateful for a fulfilling career and, of course, most of all to the audiences who heard something in my music that touched their hearts.”
Tickets for Simon’s final performances are on sale beginning February 9 for dates in North America, and February 8 for most European dates. The tour kicks off in Vancouver, British Columbia on may 16 at Rogers Arena. From there, it progresses from west to east, with stops in several U.S. cities as well as Toronto and Montreal. The U.S. leg of the tour closes on June 20 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Ten days later, Simon performs in Stockholm, Sweden, with dates following in Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Holland, the UK and Ireland. It wraps up with a July 15 performance – joined by special guests James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt – at London’s BST Festival.
