Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys has been touring in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the band’s ’60s record, Pet Sounds, but due to a back injury and immediate surgery, he had to postpone several shows.

Wilson posted the announcement on Twitter, explaining that after seeing a doctor, he was told he needs back surgery immediately, which will hopefully alleviate the pain. Therefore, he cancelled the upcoming show dates in May, and apologized to fans who had already planned on coming to see him perform.

Currently, his agents are in the process of rescheduling the shows and the new dates will be announced shortly.

“Please know that the music is in my heart and in my soul and me and the boys are looking forward to performing for you very soon,” he said in the note.

At this time, the rest of the tour should continue as planned, with dates throughout the summer. In July, the group will start out in British Columbia, and then head down the East Coast, making stops in New Jersey, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, New York, and North and South Carolina. After a brief number of shows in the UK, they will return to the States for a handful of shows. Late in November, Wilson will head out on a special Christmas tour, where he will perform the The Beach Boys’ entire Christmas Album as well as pieces from his solo Christmas record entitled What I Really Want for Christmas.
