Orange County, California-based tech start-up FlipTix has announced a ticket resale technology, which will enable tickets to be resold during a live event, to launch at this year’s Kaaboo-Del Mar Festival.

FlipTix makes it possible for concertgoers to buy or sell a ticket when exiting a venue through their mobile app. Guests only have to press “I’m gone” in the app to let fans outside know that a ticket is available. Then, prices will be set based on the amount of time remaining in the event, and sellers will receive remuneration in the form of cash, credit, merchandise, or gift card. The buyer has the option of either picking up an activated wristband at a FlipTix location at the venue, or simply getting a digital ticket delivered to their phone.

The mobile app will launch at Kaaboo-Del Mar Festival in Del Mar, California on September 14 through 16. This year’s festival, which features headliners Foo Fighters, Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry, Halsey, and more, will be the first festival to try FlipTix. Previously, the company launched at the nightlife venue BLK Live in Scottsdale, Arizona.

“Launching at KAABOO-Del Mar is a fantastic way to introduce FlipTix into music festivals,” Jaime Siegel, CEO and co-founder, said in a press release. “We’re looking forward to expanding with more premier events like KAABOO – Del Mar and adding many other festivals, venues and events around the country as we roll out.”

Co-founder Brian Siegel explained that the tertiary market has needed this kind of “solution” in the live event space for years.

“Now, with digital connectivity and personal devices that enable instant value exchange, FlipTix lets people attend events regardless of whether they are sold out and lets those who leave early recoup some value,” he said. “Higher attendance benefits concessionaires and merchandise vendors and attracting more people to event locations helps local economies – all without additional cost to the event producer.”

In addition to their festival launch, FlipTix will hold a promotional contest to award a winner two Hang Loose three-day wristbands to the festival, equating to a value of $558. In order to be eligible, participants must create an account at fliptix.com/register and download the FlipTix mobile app. The deadline to register is 11:59 p.m. PDT on September 12.
