Yesterday’s concert in San Jose, California, set to feature acts One Republic and Ellie Goulding, was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The show, which was slated to take place at Discovery Meadow Park as a part of the AT&T Playoff Playlist Live! series, was supposed to come ahead of the College Football Playoff National Championship tonight at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. It would have been the third show in the series.

However, due to heavy rainfall and brisk winds, the gig was called-off, although it was originally billed as a “rain or shine” event. According to a press release, organizers were concerned about the safety of performers as well as spectators since the forecasts predicted winds as strong as 30 miles per hour.

“Of course, safety is the primary consideration for the College Football Playoff (CFP) and its sponsors, and the cancellation of tonight’s show is consistent with that priority,” Bill Hancock, executive director of the CFP, said.

The cancelled show would have followed the opening night show from Alessia Cara on January 4 and Saturday’s concert, featuring Leon Bridges and Logic. According to The Mercury News, the January 5 show generated about 5,000 fans, filling the venue to half capacity.

Today, Clemson Tigers will face Alabama Crimson Tide for the National Championship game. This is the fourth time the Tigers have played in the CFP.
