Broadway’s Moulin Rouge! The Musical, a show with ties to Australia, will hold a benefit performance and a benefit concert to raise funds for the ongoing wildfires Down Under.

The benefit performance will take place on January 26 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre to coincide with the nation’s Australia Day. All funds from the benefit gig will go toward the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund and WIRES Australian Wildfire Rescue. Then, the following day, members will take part in the Make It Rain Rally, an initiative created by Australian cast members Karli Dinardo and Reed Luplau.

The benefit show, dubbed (Le) Poisson Rouge, will be directed by LuPlau and feature performances from a handful of stars including Ben Folds, Postmodern Jukebox, Morgan James, and Alexis Michelle, as well as a handful of actors from Frozen, Hamilton, and Tootsie. Funds from the gig will also be donated to the same organizations.

Since September, Australia has been plagued by bush fires, which have seared more than 15 million acres across the country as a part of the worst fire seasons in its history. At least 28 people died in the fires, along with over one billion animals. Already, two benefit concerts have been announced: Sound Relief Australia and Fire Fight Australia. The latter sold-out Sydney’s ANZ Stadium the morning tickets went on sale, selling over 65,000 tickets in under five hours. Due to overwhelming demand, causing promoters to release even more tickets.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical first opened on Broadway in the summer of 2018. The play, which is produced Alex Timbers, features Aaron Tveit and Tony winner Karen Olivo. Similar to the 2001 film, the stage adaptation features a handful of pop hits from the past decade, delving into the secret love between a young Englishman in Paris and a singer at Moulin Rouge.
