The 2025 Australian Open has become the most-attended edition of the tennis event in 120 years.

The match took place on Sunday at Melbourne Park, bringing-in a total of 1.2 million fans. During the event, Italy’s Jannik Siner beat German Alexander Zverv in the men’s final, winning the Australian Open for the second year in a row. Madison Keys of the U.S. was also crowned the champion, defeating former champion Aryna Sabalenka in the women’s decider.

Steve Dimopoulos, Minister for Tourism, Sports and Major Events, said that this year’s Australian Open “has broken records with over a million tennis fans flocking to Melbourne Park to witness the world’s best tennis players, and many millions more watching at home as we showcase Victoria to the world.”

“We’re the major events capital of Australia because of world class events like the Australian Open, they bring thousands of visitors to Melbourne, filling hotels and boosting businesses across the state,” Dimopoulos said.

Tennis Australia’s chief executive Craig Tiley said that the team is “proud to have delivered another record-breaking Australian Open, with more than a million fans once again enjoying world-class tennis and the crowning of two exceptional champions.”

While last year’s event brought-in A$533 million, this year’s event is set to top that figure.

The two-week Australian Open has held 113 editions to-date and is chronologically the first of the four Grand Slam events every year, followed by the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. In just the past 10 years, the Australian Open has brought-in A$3.14 billion for the Victorian economy.
