Scottish rock band Simple Minds have announced a massive headlining tour across North America in May and June. The trek serves as a celebration of the 40-year anniversary of their hit album Once Upon A Time, while also marking the band’s biggest live run across the U.S. and Canada in four decades.
Titled “Alive & Kicking Tour 2025,” the highly-awaited run will kick-off kick off May 16 in Ridgefield, WA and wrap up June 22 in Noblesville, IN, hitting cities like Seattle, Phoenix, Austin, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Toronto, Montreal, Chicago, and more in-between.
The band will perform at such popular arenas and amphitheaters as Seattle, WA’s Climate Pledge Arena (May 17), Inglewood, CA’s Kia Forum (May 22), Denver, CO’s Ball Arena (May 27), Columbia, MD’s Merriweather Post Pavilion (June 10), and so on.
Soft Cell and Modern English will provide direct support throughout the run.
Formed in 1977, Simple Minds are widely known for their 1985 hit single “Don’t You (Forget About Me),” which became iconic after being featured in the film “The Breakfast Club” the same year.
Over the years, they sold more than 60 million records and dropped 20 studio albums, three of which – Sparkle In The Rain, Once Upon A Time and Street Fighting Years – reached No. 1 in the U.K.
Simple Minds is now marking their 40th anniversary with a world tour, live album and career-spanning compilation. Singer Jim Kerr and guitarist Charlie Burchill are the only permanent members who have been with the band throughout since its inception. The band also currently consists of bassist Ged Grimes, drummer Cherisse Osei, backing singer Sarah Brown, guitarist and keyboardist Gordy Goudie and keyboardist Erik Ljunggren.
“Been a while but absence makes the heart grow fonder,” Kerr said in a statement. “Simple Minds are ecstatic at the prospect of touring so extensively in the US and Canada this coming spring.”
Regarded as one of the key acts of the ‘80s alternative rock scene, Simple Minds blend elements of post-punk, new wave, and arena rock in their music, and still maintain a dedicated fanbase.
“The truth is we never fully wound down,” Burchill said. “But the perception that we’re now gathering pace is down to our attitude to playing live. There have been lots of different incarnations of Simple Minds, but we’ve always kept our identity. A legacy can be a burden if you allow it to be. For us, it’s been empowering.”
“Simple Minds are different now,” Kerr added. “We’re not a stock rock band, but we haven’t changed our line-up to be cool. We’ve done it because it’s great to have so many amazing players on board. I’m grateful for the career we’ve had, but I’m mad enough to think we can still hit new levels. This is what we do – write, record and play live.”
