Last season’s “American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert is extending the reach of his long-awaited Glam Nation Tour with a total of 40 concert dates now on his summer schedule.

While the tour doesn’t officially begin until the first week of June, Lambert’s itinerary opens this weekend with a set at the radio-sponsored Wango Tango concert on May 15 in Los Angeles, CA. His routing for the season will keep him on the road through a September 18 show at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL.

When initial plans for the Glam Nation Tour were revealed, Lambert had just over a dozen concerts confirmed. Now his trek includes gigs on June 15 at Riverside Theatre in Milwaukee, WI; July 3 at the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach, SC; July 17 at Paramount Theatre in Denver, CO;and August 19 at Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis, MA.

Stops in two previously announced tour markets have also been extended to two-night stands. Lambert will perform to sold-out audiences on June 22-23 at Nokia Theatre Times Square in New York, NY, followed the next month by July 27-28 concerts at the OC Fair in Costa Mesa, CA.

Ticket sales have already started in select tour markets; the next round of onsales begins May 14 in other markets. Most ticket face values are below the $50 mark, according to current listings on Ticketmaster.com.

Select dates of the tour will feature support from guitarist Orianthi and Lambert’s former “Idol” competitor Allison Iraheta.

“I hope the audience will be able to escape for a few hours and fall into a world full of glam, drama and excitement,” Lambert said in a statement on his official Web site. “And I would love everyone to come away with a new appreciation for the music on my album.”

Lambert is touring behind his debut album, “For Your Entertainment,” released in November 2009. Since the record opened at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, it has sold more than 615,000 copies, according to an end-of-April report from USA Today.
