Trailblazing electro-pop group Depeche Mode will hit both coasts of North America later this summer after completing the first leg of its tour in Europe. The Tour of the Universe launches its continental run with a July 24 concert in Toronto, ON, and concludes on September 5 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Venues are yet to be announced for the 20-city venture, which also includes a July 31 show in Boston, MA, an August 3 gig in New York, NY, an August 16-17 stand in Los Angeles, CA, an August 23 concert in Austin, TX, and September 1 event in Atlanta, GA. The six-week trek includes one additional stop in Canada on July 25 in Montreal, QC.

Onsales for select markets on the tour begin March 13.

Depeche Mode is touring in support of its twelfth studio album, “Sounds of the Universe,” which is slated for release in North America on April 21. In addition to a standard CD release, the record will also be available as a three-disk special edition set that features bonus songs, remixes, and 14 exclusive demos, as well as a behind-the-scenes DVD.

The record is a follow-up to 2005’s “Playing the Angel,” which debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200. Depeche Mode was last on the road during the 2005-2006 season for Touring the Angel, which kicked off in North America before moving on to Europe.

The Tour of the Universe 2009 world tour opens May 10 at Ramat Gan Stadium in Tel Aviv, Israel, and continues in Europe through a July 12 appearance at Olimpic Stadium in Seville, Spain.
