Much has been made of the prices and sales figures on the upcoming showdown between Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Conor McGregor. Less than two weeks remain before the August 26th fight night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where Mayweather-McGregor hopes to break the sales record previously set by Mayweather’s fight against Manny Pacquiao.

Whether you believe the sales have been lagging – and there is plenty of evidence to support the assertion – it’s undeniably a fight that has a very high level of interest. Promoter Floyd Ellerbe recently ripped reports that sales were slow, pointing out that $60 million in tickets have already been sold.

“What part of [that sales figure] remotely looks like ticket sales are slow? This isn’t a damn Rolling Stones concert. That’s the only thing that sells out in seconds,” Ellerbe says. “When you are talking about tickets going from $500 to $10,000, that’s an expensive ticket. So you have every CEO from every major company. You know, guys, it takes time to plan and get it together.”

TFL and ATBS for ticketing professionals

For the moment, there are still tickets available in the primary marketplace, beginning at $2,500 for tickets in the upper deck. Those come with nearly $500 in added fees from Ticketmaster, with a pair of tickets setting you back $5,441. Ticketmaster’s resale platform has seats in Section 216 for sale at $1,579 each, with $404 in fees. A pair, then, will set a user back $4,330.

The fee bump is also present on the secondary marketplaces, where hundreds of tickets are already purchased but awaiting a final destination. On StubHub, the least expensive seat is in Section 211, where a $1,650 base price comes with $335 in fees, bringing the total to $1,985 per seat or $3,970 for two. On VividSeats, Section 211 seats are available for slightly less – with a $1,579 price tag and $395 in fees per ticket making a pair $3,948.

By far the best deal on Mayweather-McGregor seats right now is TicketClub, where members can get seats for hundreds less. A seat in Section 214 goes for $1,683 – and members pay no service fees, so a pair are $3,366, all in. Looking through the listings, there numerous seats available on TicketClub for less than the cheapest seat on StubHub, VividSeats or anywhere else, even if a customer has to pay the $49.95 fee for an annual membership with the purchase.

Fees Much More Pronounced at Top End

The difference in the ‘all in’ cost is even more pronounced when you look at the higher end of the spectrum – which makes sense, given the percentage of ticket price nature of these per-ticket fees. The highest price seat on each exchange is for a pair in Row A, Section A – ringside. For about the cost of purchasing a starter home on the east coast, you can rub elbows with the hoi polloi who make up the ringside attendance at such an affair. On Vivid, the $164,043 price tag will come with $25,180.88 in fees, making the pair cost $378,462.71. StubHub is slightly better. A base price of $150,375 comes with a 30,080.25 fee per ticket, for a total pair of $360,910.50.

TicketClub.com has seats in that row for 169,650.00. For members, they’ll have both for $339,300… $39,162 less than Vivid and $21,610 below StubHub.
