Fans of the magical Harry Potter saga- first a series of wildly popular novels by J.K. Rowling, then equally successful films- will be thrilled to hear that their favorite wizards are coming soon to a stage near them. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is set to open at the Lyric Theater in New York on April 22, 2018, according to variety.com.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is Rowling’s eighth story in the Harry Potter series, and the first to be written as a screenplay. The production is based on the story written by Rowling alongside Jack Thorne, who scripted the play, and John Tiffany, who will direct. It takes place nineteen years after the original books left off at the Battle of Hogwarts, and sees Harry and friends as adults who deal with work, family, and of course, their tumultuous past.

When it premiered last summer in the West End, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child received rave reviews from audiences and critics alike, as well as earned a record nine Olivier Awards. Many of the award-winning U.K. cast members, including Jamie Parker (Harry) and Noma Dumezweni (Hermione), will stay on for the show’s Broadway run in the U.S. Other West End cast members include Paul Thornley (Ron), Poppy Miller (Ginny), Alex Price (Draco), and Anthony Boyle (Draco’s son), also an award-winner. Byron Jennings, Kathryn Meisle and David Abeles are among the new cast members in the Broadway production.
