Keller Williams tour teams up with Moseley, Droll and Sipe for fall dates
One-man jam band Keller Williams is getting some assistance from other musicians on his fall tour of the United States. The trek kicks off October 16 at Rialto Theatre in Tucson, AZ, and continues through December 12 at Telluride Conference Ballroom in Telluride, CO.
The 21-date jaunt includes a November 7 show at El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, CA, and a November 22 gig at Ram’s Head on Stage in Annapolis, MD. Williams will perform solo through the October 24 show at Newport Music Hall in Columbus, OH, and then again for his three currently scheduled December shows.
The singer-songwriter, who performs more than 100 concerts per year, will be joined by Keith Moseley (bass), Gibb Droll (guitar) and Jeff Sipe (drums) from October 25 through November 15. Williams first joined with the others in 2007, at the time dubbing the creation Keller Williams and the WMDS — a nod to the foursome’s last initials.
“When I started, I could barely afford to pay myself, let alone three other guys. Then later, the solo show was going so well, it was like, if it ain’t broken…” Williams said in a statement on his official MySpace profile.
The three men, whose credits range from the String Cheese Incident to solo efforts by Trey Anastasio, are joining Williams to support the group’s new live album, simply titled “Live.” Though Williams still enjoys his signature solo act, employing looping techniques to play all the instruments, he also embraces the collaboration with his “dream band.”
“What a treat after so many years of being in control. The band has a knack for handing a sharp left that I don’t see coming,” Williams explained. “We’re so new and spontaneous; we can’t yet complete each others musical sentences — which I like.”
Following the run with the WMDS, Williams will perform on November 21-22 with special sets from Grunge Grass, a bluegrass cover band that he plays guitar in.
