After last summer’s successful tour of the U.S., classic rock group Journey is back for more with nearly 20 new concerts. The band performs next on May 23 at Raley Field in West Sacramento, CA, and kicks off the main leg of the tour on July 16 at Moondance Jam in Walker, MN.
Journey’s 10-week tour is currently scheduled to end with a September 26 concert at New Orleans Arena in New Orleans, LA. Highlights for the outing include a July 21 concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO, a July 29- 30 stand at Pala Casino in Pala, CA, and an August 28 gig at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center in Darien Center, NY.
Journey is continuing to support its 13th studio album, “Revelation,” released in June 2008. The record hit No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and peaked at No. 1 on the independent albums chart. The Platinum-certified release is also the first to feature new lead singer Arnel Pineda, who is based in the Philippines.
In early December 2007, Journey announced that the Manila-born vocalist would be the most recent replacement for original singer Steve Perry, who left the band after a hip injury suffered in 1997 prevented him from touring. In the decade since Perry’s departure, several vocalists have filled in for him on the band’s tours and albums.
Guitarist Neal Schon discovered Pineda by chance on YouTube, where several videos portrayed the vocalist’s talent for singing uncanny covers of Journey hits. “It’s so exciting to sing with one of the best bands in the world,” Pineda is quoted on the band’s Web site.
In summer 2008, Journey toured the national circuit with Cheap Trick and Heart. Running from July through early October, the bands hit nearly 50 cities on the major amphitheatre tour.
