Disney Channel’s television and pop music starlet Miley Cyrus has already caused a sensation this week with the announcement of her North American summer tour, which will use paperless ticketing exclusively for all 45 dates. Now word is out that once her itinerary wraps on this side of the Atlantic, Cyrus will jet off to make her headline concert debut on the other side of the pond.
Ten concerts have been booked for the UK and Ireland during the winter 2009 holiday season, kicking off with a December 13-14 stand at the O2 Arena in London, ENG, where she will return for another performance on December 20.
The entire outing, which also includes two-night engagements in Dublin and Birmingham, will close out on December 27-28 at the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, ENG. As with the North American tour, the pop princess’s brother Trace Cyrus and his band Metro Station will open for the 10-date jaunt this winter.
Listing for Cyrus’s appearances on December 16-17 at the O2 Arena in Dublin, IRE, have already popped up on Ticketmaster UK, though ticket onsales for the trek have not been announced. It is unclear whether the UK tour will take the same exclusively paperless approach as Cyrus’ stateside summer dates.
A spokesperson for Ticketmaster UK declined to comment on the ticketing procedure being used for the winter tour. A request for comment to Cyrus’s North American and UK tour promoter, AEG Live, was not returned.
In the U.S. and Canada, all ticketing for Cyrus’ summer 2009 tour will use paperless ticketing technology. Since hard tickets are not issued for these events, ticket buyers are required to swipe the purchasing credit card and present a valid photo ID at the venue doors before being ushered inside with all other members of their party. The process has already stirred up controversy about the restrictions it places on who may purchase a Miley Cyrus ticket, and who must be present to redeem the seat reservations at the time of the concert.
