Pre-schoolers rejoice: Children’s musicians The Wiggles are bringing their Pop Go The Wiggles Live! tour to North America this fall. The music begins October 23 at Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center in Cleveland, OH, and continues though November 23 at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL.
Highlights of the family friendly act include an October 24-25 four-show run at Rogers Centre in Toronto, ON, and November 5 concerts at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, NY. Fourteen venues on the 24-city tour, including the Rogers Centre and Sovereign Bank Arena, will offer two performances a day.
As a guide, the official Wiggles Web site states that tiny tots who are 12 months and older need a ticket for the event. Those under 12 months of age should not need a ticket as long as they sit on a parent’s lap during the show, though specifics may vary depending on the ticketing agent at each venue.
Formed 17 years ago, The Wiggles have released more than 30 videos and an equal number of albums that pair high-energy songs and dances in their act. Accordng to published reports, the four-man act earned more than $45 million in 2007, making them the top-earning Australian act, surpassing even international pop diva Kylie Minogue and Hollywood A-listers Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe.
Each year, the color-coordinated main actors Sam Moran (yellow), Murray Cook (red), Jeff Fatt (purple) and Anthony Field (blue) tour extensively, usually with multiple runs of North America. The four lead children in sing- and dance-alongs during their lives shows, which also feature special guests Dorothy the Dinosaur, Wags the Dog, Captain Feathersword and Henry the Octopus.
Tickets for The Wiggles events usually have low face values to make the events affordable for families from all economic demographics. However, as with any immensely popular group, tickets to The Wiggles’s events have become a hot item on secondary markets around the world.
In the fab four’s native Australia, a $19 ticket was being auctioned on eBay for nearly $2,000 before the offending ticket was cancelled. In the United States, a California father named Michael Freedman took a ticket broker to court on Judge Joe Brown’s daytime show. Freedman bought three tickets to a Wiggles concert from the broker, but was allegedly denied access to the event, which led him to buy scalped tickets at the venue. The case, in which Freedman sought $420 in damages, was dismissed.
