Austin City Limits

“Austin City Limits” is an American television concert music program that first aired in 1976. The series began as a mainly Texas-style music program, but has since gone on to cover a variety of styles and has expanded beyond Texas alone. The program is taped live by a PBS station on University of Texas at Austin’s campus and images of the beautiful city of Austin, Texas are shown in the opening credits.

The “Austin City Limits Music Festival”, an annual live music festival at Zilker Park in Austin, was inspired by this television series. Made up of more than 130 bands and eight stages, this three-day music festival covers the genres of rock, country, folk, Indie, Americana, hip-hop, reggae, and blue grass. Around 65,000 people attend this music festival each day, making it part of the premier rock festivals group along with Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Coachella. The seventh annual (2009) Austin City Limits Music Festival is scheduled for September 26-28 and includes bands such as the Foo Fighters, Robert Plant and Allison Krauss, Beck, The Raconteurs, The Mars Volta, Gnarls Barkley, Erykah Badu, and many more.

Mason Jennings tour includes Austin City Limits gig

By Allison Reitz

Just like his song suggests, singer/songwriter Mason Jennings will be "In Your City" -- soon. His 19-date headlining tour kicks off September 13 in Ventura, CA, and closes October 18 in Minneapolis, MN, Jennings's "adopted home." Zach Gill will open all performances beginning September 30.

The headlining tour supports the May 2008 album from Hawaii-born Jennings, "In the Ever." The album is a departure for Jennings, who released five albums on Bar/None Records and another on Epic. "In the Ever" was handled by someone much closer to the musician: his friend, singer/songwriter Jack Johnson.

Two Injured in Fire at Austin City Limits

Two people were critically injured and two others hurt after a fire broke Friday afternoon (Sept. 14) at the Austin City Limits Festival at Zilker Park in Austin, TX, according to Billboard. Thick, black smoke could be seen for miles resulting from a blaze that is being blamed on a propane tank attached to a trailer behind vendor tents between two stages.
