Barbra Streisand is an award-winning Brooklyn-born singer, songwriter, actress, producer and director. Her career began in local nightclubs while she was a teen and ultimately led to her first album, "The Barbra Streisand Album", which won her two Grammy Awards. She has since recorded 35 studio albums.
Streisand has been nominated for over 40 Grammy Awards and has won 15, with her most recent nomination being as Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for "Live in Concert 2006". Streisand's popularity extends to her sold-out concerts, where her tickets can cost up to $1,800 for VIP packages and as much as $5,500 on the secondary ticket market.
Besides Streisand’s musical success, her original desire to become an actress drew her to take on roles in Off-Off-Broadway productions and films. In 1962 she had her first major Broadway production, "I Can Get It For You Wholesale", followed by a successful performance in "Funny Girl" in 1964. The show was reprised for film in 1968, which she also starred in and received an Academy Award, as well as the Golden Globe for her performance. Streisand’s latest film work will include a starring role as Rozalin Focker in the production "Little Fockers", scheduled for release in 2010.
Barbra Streisand set to perform in Brooklyn
Barbra Streisand will make a much anticipated return to her childhood home of Brooklyn, NY, in a rare musical performance this fall.
Streisand will be one of the first performers ever to grace the stage at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, which opens its doors on September 28 with a concert from part-owner (and Brooklyn-born) Jay-Z.
Barbra Streisand plans exclusive concert at New York jazz club
The retired, unretired, retired again and unretired again Barbra Streisand is making a rare live performance at the Village Vanguard, the subterranean jazz club in Greenwich Village in New York, NY, on September 26.
While an appropriate venue for the legendary singer to celebrate her upcoming album of jazz standards and classics, "Love Is the Answer," at 123 person capacity, the demand will greatly outdistance the supply of tickets.
Barbra Streisand to perform at Barack Obama fundraiser
Barbra Streisand is set to perform at a September 16 fundraiser for Barack Obama at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. The fundraiser is expected to be the last one Obama will attend before the general election on November 4.
Tickets for Streisand's performance are $2,500 per person. The hotel ballroom holds approximately 700 people.
