Lucinda Williams is a unique American singer and songwriter in that she covers the three genres of rock, country, and folk. Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1953, she recorded her first albums in 1978 and 1980 with “Ramblin’” and “Happy Woman Blues”. Her breakthrough album was released in 1998, called “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road”, and received a Grammy Award for best Contemporary Folk Album. Other successful albums included “World Without Tears” (2003), “West” (2007), and “Little Honey” (2008), which hit numbers 18, 14 and 9 respectively on the US Billboard.
Her first hit single “Passionate Kisses”, which came from her 1988 album “Lucinda Williams”, was reason for her first Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 1994. She also won the 2001 Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for her single “Get Right with God”. In the fall of 2007, Lucinda played series of shows in Los Angeles and New York, dedicating five nights in each city and performing her entire catalog of albums.
Lucinda Williams tour plots special sets for New York, Chicago, Toronto
Last year, singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams performed special shows in both New York and Los Angeles, where she played five of her classic albums -- one album per night -- over a five-night run.
This year, Williams will treat her fans in New York and Chicago to another special series of concerts as part of her 30th Anniversary Tour, celebrating her milestone in the music business. Instead of playing a complete album each night, she will play songs from a different decade of her career over three nights.
Lucinda Williams tour offers fans financial relief
How do fans spell relief during these tight economic times? It just might be L-U-C-I-N-D-A. Three-time Grammy winner Lucinda Williams is offering fans attending her concerts a standing credit at her merchandise table.
"I cannot, in good conscience, sit back and watch my fans get blatantly gouged," said Williams in a statement about fees attached to concert tickets. "As an attempt to offset these fees, we are going to offer a standing credit at our merchandise table to everyone attending our upcoming U.S. shows in 2009."
Outside Lands Festival adds Lucinda Williams, the Avett Brothers to bill
Lucinda Williams, Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band, The Avett Brothers, Bat for Lashes and Los Campensinos! have been added to the bill for the second Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival set for August 28-30 in San Francisco's historic Golden Gate Park.
The previously announced headline acts for the three-day event are Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band and Beastie Boys. Also on the bill are Incubus, M.I.A., Thievery Corporation, Jason Mraz, Ween, The Mars Volta, Black-Eyed Peas, Tom Jones, TV on the Radio, Mastodon and Built to Spill, among many others.
Lucinda Williams tour adds more U.S. shows in 2009
Grammy Award-winning musician Lucinda Williams is laying down some dates for a U.S. tour early in 2009. The singer-songwriter's itinerary currently opens with a February 19 show at the House of Blues in Dallas, TX, and has dates booked through March 13 at Flynn Center for the Performing Arts in Burlington, VT.
While new dates are still being unveiled for the 11-city trek, current highlights include a February 21 concert at Warehouse Live in Houston, TX, a February 28 performance at Variety Playhouse in Atlanta, GA, and March 3-4 sets at 9:30 Club in Washington, DC. Onsale dates and ticket availability for the tour vary depending on the venue.

Lucinda Williams tour takes on the West Coast
Singer/songwriter Lucinda Williams has lined up a short nine-city West Coast tour starting on August 25 in San Diego, CA, and wrapping on September 6 in Santa Cruz, CA. The trek was built around her appearances at the Britt Festival in Jacksonville, OR, on August 28 and the Bumbershoot Festival on August 30 in Seattle, WA.
For most of July, Williams opened for John Mellencamp. Last fall, she performed five of her albums in their entirety over five nights in Los Angeles and in New York.
