Michael W. Smith, born in West Virginia in 1957, is a successful singer-songwriter, musician, recording artist, composer, and actor. His mainstream career began in 1990 with the release of “Go West Young Man” and the hit single “Place in This World” which took number six on the Billboard Hot 100. Other top releases of the 90’s include “Change Your World” (1992), “I’ll Lead You Home” (1995), and “Live the Life” (1998). Smith’s musical impact is highlighted by his winning of three Grammy Awards, one American Music Award, 34 Dove Awards, and his career sales of over 13 million albums, five of platinum status, and 29 number-one hit singles.
Smith’s most recent work includes an October of 2008 studio Christmas album release “A New Hallelujah.” He also began his multi-city concert series, The United Tour, with fellow Christian musician Steve Curtis Chapman in late 2008.
