RazorGator


Secondary ticket company RazorGator has been around for more than 30 years, and is ranked ninth-ranked overall ticket seller, and the fifth-ranked secondary seller, in the country, according to TicketNews's exclusive industry rankings.

The company calls itself a "recognized leader in providing clients with the ability to buy and sell tickets to any event on the planet," and it specialized in sports tickets and packages, such as the Super Bowl, the World Series, college basketball's Final Four and several prestigious golf tournaments.

Among the partnerships the company has established are deals with the San Francisco 49'ers, the Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers and Oakland Raiders. It also has deals with baseball's Oakland A's, and with the University of Washington, and the company's Interactive Group is the authorized hospitality provider for college football's popular Rose Bowl Game. RazorGator also has a deal with the FedEx Orange Bowl as the official fan exchange site.

In the spring of 2007, the company replaced its President and CEO David Lord with Jeffrey Lapin, who remained in place as of the writing of this profile in January 2009.

Layoffs looming at RazorGator: Company to move eCommerce division out of Arizona office

In a move to consolidate some of its operations at its Los Angeles headquarters, RazorGator is preparing to close the eCommerce division at its Phoenix office and move it to L.A., which will result in some layoffs, TicketNews has learned.

The exact number of layoffs has not yet been determined because some employees from the division are considering making the move to L.A. So far, only Mark Wilson, executive vice president of the division, and Roderick Ioerger, who headed up the company's SEO and affiliate marketing programs, have been dismissed.

Beijing Olympics ticket lawsuit: Broker seeks $6 million in damages from RazorGator

The legal wrangling between RazorGator and Texas ticket broker Andrew Hentrich, over alleged non-payment for Beijing Olympics tickets Hentrich acquired for RazorGator, continues to fester.

Hentrich sued RazorGator last fall, claiming the company had not paid him several hundred thousand dollars in connection with thousands of Beijing Olympics tickets he bought for the company, for which the two parties were supposedly going to split the profits 50-50. The two parties attempted to work out a settlement but could not come to an agreement.

Ticketing veterans Sam Soni and Jason Parker return to RazorGator

Just over a year after leaving the company, former RazorGator executives Sam Soni and Jason Parker have been rehired, according to company President and CEO Brendan Ross.

Soni, who originally joined RazorGator in 2005 after selling his Encore Tickets to the company, is now executive vice president of ticketing and procurement, and Parker will report to him as director of ticketing for special events. Parker also sold his business, Sports Tour Classics, to RazorGator at about the same time, and both resigned in July of 2008 following an up-and-down period of corporate shuffling at the company.

LOS ANGELES (RazorGator) May 4, 2009 – RazorGator has reached agreement with the Tournament of Roses to extend their multi-year partnership for the Rose Bowl Game presented by Citi to include the 2010 Citi BCS National Championship Game. RazorGator will power the Official Fan2Fan Ticket Exchange for next year’s BCS National Championship Game while its subsidiary, PrimeSport, will serve as the game’s preferred travel package provider.

RazorGator, the industry-leader in Hard-to-Get® tickets for sports and entertainment events worldwide, will continue as the Official Fan2Fan Ticket Exchange Provider of the Tournament of Roses and the Rose Bowl Game for the fourth consecutive year. RazorGator makes it official by replacing CEO Jeff Lapin with Brendan Ross

As reported first by TicketNews last week, secondary ticket company RazorGator has replaced CEO Jeff Lapin with former Ticketmaster executive Brendan Ross, effective immediately.

Ross takes over the CEO position at a time when RazorGator seeks to regain its footing in the secondary market following the departures of several key executives over the past couple of years. Lapin himself headed up the company for just under two years, replacing David Lord in 2007.

RazorGator CEO Jeff Lapin, who replaced David Lord in the top slot in April 2007, has left the company, sources have told TicketNews.

The Los Angeles, CA-based company has not issued a release nor confirmed the dismissal, but Lapin is believed to be replaced by Brendan Ross, President of Ross Asset Advisors and a former Ticketmaster Entertainment executive. According to his company's Web site, Ross led the team that helped to create Ticketmaster's TicketExchange.

RazorGator adds $10 million in debt financing for possible acquisitions

Having already raised $7.5 million in venture capital this winter, secondary ticket company RazorGator has followed that up with another $10 million in debt financing from Los Angeles-based Hercules Technology Growth Capital.

While the company would not disclose exactly what it plans to do with the money, it said in a release that it will be used for "aggressive expansion to meet growing consumer demand for hard-to-get tickets," adding that this could include "enhancements that will better service professional sports teams, leagues and artists" for marketing purposes.

RazorGator raises $7.5 mil. in venture capital funding

In what could be a sign of things to come for secondary ticket companies in light of the current recession, RazorGator has reached out to venture capitalists and raised $7.5 million in financing.

The company did not release details of its latest round of financing, but according to RazorGator spokesperson Scott Roback, the company expects to release information on matter sometime next week after the deal closes. According to the private equity Web site PEHub.com, Steamboat Ventures, an affiliate of the Walt Disney Company, has placed one of its managing directors, Dan Beldy, on RazorGator's Board of Directors.

RazorGator considers countersuing Austin Ticket Co. over Olympic tickets

RazorGator has instructed its legal team to review the possibility of countersuing Texas ticket broker Andrew Hentrich, and his firm Austin Ticket Company, which last month sued RazorGator for alleged breach of contract over payments for Olympic ticket orders.

RazorGator did not disclose a time frame for the company might file its lawsuit against Hentrich, nor did the company offer details on the grounds for which it might sue. But, judging from its statement, the company does not believe Hentrich fulfilled his part of the deal concerning tickets to the Beijing Olympics in August.
