Planning a new festival can be tricky business, as we’ve seen in the past with Karoondinha, Revolution Rock, Fyre Fest, and other failed large-scale music events. Yesterday, yet another festival dropped out before its debut.

Flux Festival was supposed to take place at Bonython Park in Adelaide, Australia next weekend, December 1, with a line-up headlined by deadmau5, What So Not, Showtek, and Dom Dolla. The event was canceled suddenly with no explanation. Its social media accounts were deleted and official website reads only: “Please be advised that the Flux Festival on 1 December at Bonython Park has been cancelled. All ticket holders will receive a full refund from Ticketmaster.”

Some fans have speculated that on top of the difficulty of planning, booking, marketing, etc., the cancellation may have been due in part to the festival’s competition with two larger and more well-established festivals – Sensation and Creamfields – which both come to Australia this weekend.

Whatever the reason, fans who did plan to attend were pretty disappointed with the lack of transparency.

The event’s Ticketmaster page also does not provide any further explanation, but says that refunds will be available from point of purchase.
