Things got a little heated during a benefit concert in Manhattan on Thursday when rapper Remy Ma punched Love & Hip-Hop star Brittany Taylor backstage at Irving Plaza.

Ma was supposed to perform at the Pretty Lou third annual benefit show, featuring a set from Fat Joe. However, a fight broke out between Ma and Taylor after Ma reportedly punched her in the face. According to a statement from law enforcement, reported by TMZ, Taylor told police the two “exchanged words” in the greenroom about an an attack on Ma’s stepdaughter a few weeks ago. Taylor claims Ma threw the first punch and had to go to the hospital for treatment.

She posted a picture of her black eye on Instagram, noting  that she didn’t want to bring the fight to social media attention because she was embarrassed, but wanted to know why Ma did this to her. Ma’s sources, however, claim that Taylor has no validity to her story. Taylor’s lawyer, Sanford Rubenstein, told NY Daily News “she wants Remy Ma prosecuted for what she did to her.” No arrests have been made at this time, and police are currently investigating the incident.

This isn’t the first time Ma has been caught up with some law enforcement trouble; back in 2007, the singer was sentenced to six years in prison for an attempted murder charge and is currently on parole.

Ma last released Plato O Plomo with Fat Joe in 2017, which followed 2015’s Remy on the Rocks. She is best-known for hits like “Conceited (There’s Something About Remy)” and “Wake Me Up” with Lil’ Kim.
