Hurricane Dorian, the Category 5 storm which has already caused “extreme flooding” through the Bahamas, is headed toward the U.S. In light of the approaching storm, a handful of concerts have been cancelled including Chris Brown’s Florida gig and Pitbull’s California show.
This past weekend, rapper Brown was slated to headline a concert at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida, but as the public grew concerned about the approaching hurricane, organizers called-off the gig.
“Due to the impending storm that is set to impact the state of Florida, Chris Brown at BB&T Center on September 1st has been canceled,” the venue said in a statement.
At this time, no replacement show has been scheduled and ticketholders are told to seek refunds via point of purchase. The show, a part of Brown’s Indigoat Tour, was also supposed to feature performances from artists like Tory Lanez, Ty Dolla $ign, and Joyner Lucas.
Pitbull also had to cancel a show this weekend. He was set to hold a performance at the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona, California, but a statement from the fair noted that Pitbull could not safely depart from his home in Miami to attend the show and was going to stay in Florida to take care of his family. The show will be rescheduled to September 12.
“Due to Hurricane Dorian’s fast changing weather conditions approaching South Florida and the Eastern Seaboard tonight’s concert @lacountyfair has been postponed until September 12,” Pitbull said in a statement on Sunday. “We’re sorry to disappoint fans, but are excited to hit the stage on the new rescheduled date.”
Last week, the Rolling Stones had to push their show up a day from August 31 to August 30 in order to avoid the storm, and all tickets were honored at the new date. However, the iconic rockers did not have an opening act, although Juantes was set to provide support. The Miami concert was the last show on the Stones’ No Filter Tour.
The potentially life-threatening storm has reportedly traveled the second-shortest distance in 24 hours by a major hurricane since modern records first began in 1850, Colorado state hurricane researcher Philip Klotzbach told CNN. It is also the strongest hurricane to ever make landfall in the Bahamas with 185 mph winds. Hurricane Dorian is expected to hit Florida Tuesday night and pass near the Georgia and South Carolina coasts Wednesday night, followed by the North Carolina coast late Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center.
